Initial Ideas On Costumes

For this task, we need to look at our ideas on costumes for our piece to organise who is wearing what and how it will represent their characters. We will then know what we need to get in preparation for filming.

Pete
For the film opening we want Pete to appear quite dominant as he is the main character who is going to solve all the issues and we want the audience to be on his side, yet weaker than Sebastian as he is the one in power for the situation. Therefore we were thinking that Pete could wear a shirt and blazer with some dark jeans to make him look quite well presented and dominant, but not the best he could be. Also by wearing jeans it makes Pete appear to be a less serious guy and more casual as he isn't completely well dressed.

Sebastian
For this character we want him to appear more dominant over Pete. Therefore we want him to wear a full suit with a tie making him better dressed, more presentable, and overall higher up compared to Pete. In the narrative for the film opening, Sebastian is the dominant character so by dressing him this way will make it clear to the audience where he stands in dominance. Also by wearing this it makes Sebastian seem like quite a perfectionist and cares about his reputation and money.

Guard
For this character we want him to be wearing a balaclava to hide his face. This is because this characters identity isn't exactly important for the film opening and he has to just appear as one of Sebastian's guards rather than a character with an important role towards the narrative. We also think it would work well for the way Sebastian is presented as would appear to be more like a terrorist rather than someone who is in control of the government.

Dealer
We want the dealer to be quite covered up so that we can't tell who he is as he represents a dealer who is selling illegal items and doesn't want to get caught. He needs to look like a street-wise character who doesn't earn a lot of money as he doesn't have a proper job. Therefore we want him to be wearing a hoodie with his hood up. This character also isn't completely important for the narrative so don't want to draw too much attention to him. Therefore we want his face to be quite hidden too.

We decided for Sebastian and Pete to wear suits because our genre is action, so by wearing these costumes it makes them appear to be in a more realistic situation and they both have a wealthy lifestyle in everyday life. We want them to appear this way because the characters need to represent an average/everyday person to make the story as realistic as possible. This task has helped us to organise who will be wearing what for our film opening, and now we need to get the costumes we need and make it fit with the narrative.
