We have given our film certificate a 12, this is because
we wanted our audience range to be as big as possible because of our mainstream
company and film we are releasing. We thought that the ages from 12-20 would
give us the most profit and money towards our film as the genre is really in
their interest but would also interest older people, just not as much as the
older generation. We felt that excluding a younger audience would decrease our
audience by a big scale.
The BBFC's
information quotes:
'Films classified 12A and video works classified 12
contain material that is not generally suitable for children aged under 12. No
one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an
adult.'
Only moderate violence, no drugs, small talk of sex and no nudity.
Our film would not include the above regardless, but we felt excluding this from the film anyway to get a bigger audience.
This will help us when creating our film opening because we know what to include and not include as we understand the certification we have assigned to our group. This means that the dialogue and actions we implement will suit to the requirements for the 12 certificate. It will be a lot easier to choose what we want to include as it's very specific and clear to what we can and can't implement with regards to the certificate and the type of audience we are targeting this towards to.
