For this task we will talk about the scenes we would have for our whole film so we know what would happen after our film opening and how the story will develop. This will help us understand what we need to include in our film opening in order for the rest of the film to make sense. This will also prevent us from telling the whole story just in the film opening as that is an easy mistake to make.
Brief
Pete (main character) is a man who works at the houses of parliament. His parents died when he was young so he was brought up by his foster parents. He is on a mission to get his wife back who is being held hostage by Sebastian (villain) and his gang. This is introduced as we see Pete with a brief case that contains a chip to unlock a code to break into the Houses of Parliament. Pete has the job of delivering the brief case to Sebastian so they can steal the crown jewels. In return, they said they will release his wife. Pete is an ex-soldier who will do what it takes to save his wife as well as prevent the robbery.
Scenes
- Film opening - We see the main character (Pete) with a brief case, ready to meet someone who he will deliver it to. We follow him to a destination in which he meets Sebastian (the villain). Once he arrives he gives the brief case to him and asks to see his wife, but she isn't with them, and Sebastian tells him she is dead. He goes to open the brief case and what he wants isn't inside. There will then be a fight/chase scene where Pete manages to get anyway without being injured.
- This scene shows a flash back of Pete with his wife before she is kidnapped.
- This scene would be about Pete trying to find out whether his wife is dead or not. At first he believes she is dead and goes into a depressed state, but he wants to find out the truth.
- We see a scene of Sebastian with Petes wife (dramatic irony as we know she is alive but Pete doesn't). Sebastian tells her that he told Pete that she is dead.
- This scene would be about Pete trying to figure out where Sebastian to find out where his wife could be.
- This scene will involve Pete meeting a man who he doesn't know. He says he has been watching Pete and he thinks that he can help him. Pete doesn't trust him but he takes the chance.
- We find out that this man is the leader of a secret group. Pete creates a team with this group to help plan a way to take down Sebastian. The plan is to give Sebastian a fake code and then capture him as he tries to break into the houses of Parliament.
- This scene will be about Pete finding out why this man wants to help him. He discovers that Sebastian used to be on their side and worked with them but one day he betrayed them and now leads a criminal gang that works against the government.
- We then see a flash back of when Petes wife was kidnapped.
- Sebastian speaks to Pete on the phone and tells him to meet him as he wants the chip, so as planned he delivers the fake chip. He asks to see his wife and he tells him that he has already told him that she is dead. The rest of the crew follow them as they leave.
- They follow Sebastian to the houses of Parliament and get ready carry out the plan. Sebastian goes to break in but the alarm goes off as the chip is fake. Sebastian and his crew get caught and Pete saves his wife.
- After it is all over the man tells Pete that he is his real dad and we find out who Sebastian really is.
Conclusion
This task has helped us to understand what will come after our film opening so we can make sure it reflects the story for the whole film. It has given us a better direction to work towards as we now know what we must include in the film opening for it to make sense with the narrative. Therefore it would flow better with the rest of the story. This will help prevent us from making the mistake of giving away the whole film in the film opening as we now know what information to avoid including for the sequence for it to introduce the type of story its going to be whilst making it flow without showing everything that will happen.
